Here's a reviewers favorite scenario: seeing an author take a big leap in quality from one map to the next. Jussi has improved in every possible way with the release of Tac2 PLO Camp. There is no story or plot here, just gather up three CD's and find a computer while facing plenty of Classic Quake style action. Strogg placement is fantastic, at times even brilliant. I'm a very cautious 'creep around every corner' player, yet Jussi managed to surprise me on a number of occasions. The action starts off furious, almost too much so, as it took me several attempts to make it into the compound without dying. A health pack or two would have been nice. Once past the front gate assault things get more manageable, yet continue to present a top notch challenge until the very end. The map is much better looking than TAC1, but still a bit bland. This time out the architecture displays evidence of attention to detail with added angularity, and plenty of style. Unfortunately the texture use is repetitive and the map is a bit dark for my tastes. The layout is very cool. It's complicated and winding, giving the feeling of being in a much larger structure than you really are. The end is a bit tough to find, and will require strict attention to detail - or a bit of dumb luck. Gripes include some inappropriate item dropping by Strogg, the repetitive look of the map, an ending which is a bit abrupt, and an area which features a pool of water (no flow) which is on a slope - this defies all known laws of physics. Bottom line: a massive improvement over TAC1, a great action romp - but needs some variey to spice it up.
